Edson L. Bridges II

March 11, 1932 - July 15, 2025

Edson L. Bridges II, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025. Edson's beloved wife, Sally, died Saturday afternoon. Services for both will be held as scheduled below.

Edson was born in Lincoln, NE, on March 11, 1932, to Marvin W. Bridges, Sr. and Esther (Smith) Bridges. He was raised in Newton, MS, where he became a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan.

Edson was educated at Deerfield Academy, where he excelled in three sports, the University of Nebraska, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude, and Harvard Business School.

Edson married Sally (Sveska) Bridges on August 17, 1955, at Dundee Church in Omaha. After working in corporate planning at the Western Pacific Railroad in San Francisco, Edson and his wife, Sally, moved to Omaha, where Edson joined his father, Marvin Bridges Sr., at Bridges Investment Counsel.

Edson became the second generation to lead Bridges Investment Counsel, driving significant business growth for over five decades. He started the first SEC-registered mutual fund, Bridges Investment Fund, in the state of Nebraska, in 1963. Under his leadership, the firm grew from several million dollars in assets under management to $2 billion in 2017. Edson was known as an excellent businessman and investor, who worked diligently for his clients through his professional investment management and a deeply relational approach to client service. Edson was entrepreneurial, continuously looking to deepen and broaden Bridges Investment Counsel's investment offerings and client service capabilities.

Edson was a leader in Omaha's investment community, known for his honesty, integrity, humility, and work ethic, and his genuine care and concern for clients and co-workers.

Edson was deeply involved in a wide range of philanthropic and community service organizations. He served on many boards, including Methodist Hospital, The Omaha Zoological Society, the University of Nebraska Foundation, and First Covenant Church.

Edson dearly loved his wife of almost 70 years, Sally, and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Edson's faith was central to his life; he enjoyed Bible study, and teaching Sunday School classes.

Edson was preceded in death by father, Marvin W. Bridges, Sr., mother, Esther S. Bridges; and brother, Marvin W. Bridges, Jr.

Edson is survived by his children: Edson L. Bridges III (Tracy); grandchildren, Edson L. Bridges IV (Max), Taylor K. Bridges, and Mary E. Bridges; Jennifer S. Bridges; grandchildren, Katie Hicks, Andrew Hicks, and Sophie Lupardus; Robert W. Bridges (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Hannah Bridges, Ben Bridges, Solopino Bridges, Libby Bridges and Stewart Bridges; and two great-grandchildren.

My deepest sympathy to Jennifer, Ted and Bob, and the whole family. My thoughts and prayers go out to you as you have lost both parents so quickly. I truly believe both Edson and Sally are with their Lord and Savior. Yet, that doesn't make the loss any less real. It was a blessing to know and work with Edson.

Love and prayers to you all
