Obituary - Edward A. "Ted" Ackley Edward A. "Ted" Ackley, 96, of the Myrtle Trace subdivision in Conway, died on January 6, 2024, at the Embrace Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born in Colchester, Vermont, on August 7, 1927, the son of the late Ferdinand M. Ackley and Frances Malone Ackley. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Huntington during World War II. After receiving a degree in Business Administration from Clarkson University, he was employed by the Aluminum Company of America for 14 years in Massena, New York. He retired from Fairchild Space and Defense in Germantown, Maryland in 1991 as a Human Resources Manager after 23 years of service. Ted had a very active retirement focusing on golf, bowling, and community service. He served as President on the Myrtle Trace Home-owners Association for two and a half years and was a Starter/Ranger at the Burning Ridge Golf Course for over 19 years. At the time of his death, Ted was serving as Editor of the News & Views, the Myrtle Trace community newsletter and Secretary for three bowling leagues at Myrtle Beach Bowl. He was inducted into the Grand Strand Bowling Hall of Fame in 2009 and the South Carolina Bowling Hall of Fame in 2022 for Meritorious Service.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty H. Ackley of Conway, two sons, Douglas (Nancy) Ackley of Massena, NY, David (Michelle) Harriman of Linden, Virginia, five Daughters, Nansi (Pat) DeRosie of Ontario, NY, Valerie (Dennis) Boccabella of Mt. Airy, Maryland, Suzanne Locascio of Massena, NY, Diane (Willie) Henderson of Lisbon, MD, Melody (Bill) Payne of Hagerstown, MD, 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
A funeral service is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024, followed by a visitation at the Trinity United Methodist Church located at 198 Long Avenue, Conway, SC. A celebration of life is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20 2024, at the Myrtle Beach Bowling Center located at 101 Gray Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC.

My husband and I first met Ted many years ago when we were members of Germantown Country Club and Ted worked across the street. We again met Ted many years later when he worked at Burning Ridge GC when Dick and I played there. He was a fine outstanding gentleman. May he Rest in Peace.
