Edward Joseph Baroni

Saturday evening, Mr. Edward Joseph Baroni, affectionately known to all as Ed, courageously passed away after suffering complications of long term effects of Agent Orange. He was 75. Ed was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents - the late Joseph and Beatrice Baroni, three siblings Joe, JoAnn, and Debbie, and his son little Eddie. He is survived by two sisters Beverly (John) Zaffuto and Mary Baroni, nieces and nephews. Ed is grieved by his beloved wife Carolynne of nearly 43 years and his faithful k9 service companion - Tootsie. Also, his daughter Kim (Greg) Prine, granddaughter Megan (Dustin) Hickman, great-grandson Bentlee and great-granddaughter Logan; grandson Charles "Bubba" (Summer) Wintzell III and great-granddaughter Charleigh. Mr. Baroni served in active service from 1962 - 1974 for atotal of 12 years in the U. S. Navy, 6 of which were voluntary tours in-country of Vietnam. He was a recognized Riverboat Captain of the Brown Water Navy with an E5 ranking. The PBR River Division number 571 and also RID 43. His years of dedicated service earned him many decorated medals including the Silver with Combat V medal, Republic of Vietnam Service medal, a Navy Commendation medal with Combat V - one gold star, the Vietnam service medal - one gold star, 2 Purple Hearts - one with gold star, the National Defense Service medal, a Combat Action Ribbon, a Meritorious Unit Commendation ribbon, and The President Unit Citation ribbon, just to name a few. Upon finishing his tours, Ed immediately began employment within Orleans Parish Sheriff's office. Officer Baroni had dedicated work ethics with more than 31 years in Law Enforcement. During this time he served as a Warden, Detective, DA Investigator, and a Deputy Sheriff. He was a brave and loyal Sailor as well as a faithful, loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. Proverbs 18:24 says, "A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly; and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother." It is also said "Don't measure a man by his money but rather by the amount of his friends." Ed loved hard; whether his family or friends. He will be greatly missed. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 5, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Southeast Louisiana Veteran's Cemetery at 34888 Grantham College Drive, in Slidell, Louisiana 70460.
