Edward W. Bender, aged 71, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Born on September 23, 1952, in Brooklyn, NY, Edward was the son of the late Howard and Silvana Bender. He had a lifelong passion for music and was a member of a band since he was a teenager, initially playing the guitar before mastering the keyboard. During his high school years, he excelled in both football and baseball, earning a spot on the varsity baseball team in his sophomore year at John F. Kennedy High School in Somers, NY. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Manhattan College and later pursued his Master's Degree in Business at the University of Connecticut (UCONN). With a career spanning over 27 years, Edward was a dedicated Electronic Engineer known for his intelligence and strong work ethic. In his leisure time, he enjoyed listening to music, particularly The Doors, playing keyboard in various bands through the years, and indulging in his passion for model trains. Edward will be fondly remembered for his unique sense of humor, sharp intellect, hardworking nature, and deep love for his family.
Edward is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Ann Marie Bender, and his children, Jennifer Bender and Laura Maimone (Bender), along with Laura's husband, Richard Maimone. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Christopher and Savannah, as well as his youngest brother, Richard Bender. Additionally, he is survived by his brother-in-law, Stephen Gobbo, and Stephen's wife, Jodi Gobbo, along with his nephews and close friends.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Silvana Bender, and his younger brother Howard Bender Jr.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Yale New Haven Hospital for their compassionate care and support during Edward's illness.
A memorial service will be held at the Brookfield Funeral Home 786 Federal Road in Brookfield, CT, on Saturday, April 27th, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
