James Patrick Brown passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, at his home in Wappingers Falls, N.Y. He was born on July 28, 1952, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Raymond and Evelyn (nee Wehman) Brown. Jim or Jimmy, as he was known to family and friends, was a man whose warmth and friendliness touched many. Particularly his daughters Kathleen Brown Joy and her husband Chris and their sons Christopher William and Benjamin James, his daughter Jacqueline Brown and her partner Daniel and his sister Maryanne Brown. Jim's passing is also mourned by extended family members and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Carolyn Flaherty.
Jim attended Holy Cross School in Brooklyn, John F. Kennedy High School in Somers, N.Y., and Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. As an adult, his professional life was marked by an entrepreneurial spirit, initially as an executive chef and then later as an insurance broker with his own business. His dedication to his work was only surpassed by his commitment to his family and friends. His favorite role was being the best grandfather to Christopher William and Benjamin James. Their presence brought him immeasurable joy and pride.
Jim's larger than life personality and desire to live in the fast lane was exemplified in his love of speed whether in his beloved blue corvette, skiing the slopes in Aspen, watching thoroughbreds race at the track in Saratoga or by continually upgrading his ownership of faster and sleeker speedboats. Indeed, his passion for boating provided fond memories among family and friends, who enjoyed time with him cruising the Hudson River, Lake George or long treks to Cape Cod. In addition, Jim was an avid New York Rangers fan and his enthusiasm for the game and the team was infectious, converting many to become devoted fans, starting with his daughter Kathleen.
Jim will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, but his spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
Friends and family are welcome to gather to celebrate his life and mourn his passing at a visitation to be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Home, 418 Route 6 (GPS US-6), Mahopac, N.Y.
