Mary Tocidlowski Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cargain Funeral Homes Inc. - Carmel on Feb. 17, 2026.
Mary Bertrand Tocidlowski, a beacon of kindness and unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, in Mahopac, NY. Born on January 3, 1938 in White Plains, NY, to the late John and Helen (Robertson) Bertrand, Mary's life was a testament to the power of love and devotion.

Mary's journey through life was one of enduring love and partnership with her late husband, Stanley Tocidlowski, who was the love of her life until his passing in 2022. Together, they created a legacy of family, marked by the joys and sorrows that come with a full life. Though predeceased by her son Stanley Jr. in 1959 and her daughter Suzanne in 1981, Mary's love for her family never wavered.

She is survived by her loving children: Maryanne Tocidlowski and her partner Denise Tennill, Steven Tocidlowski and his wife Debbie (Touhey), Diane Tocidlowski Casey and her husband Patrick, and Joseph Tocidlowski and his wife Karina (Gutierrez). Her treasured grandchildren, Shawn Tocidlowski and his wife Liz, Michael Tocidlowski and his wife Rebecca, Daniel Casey, and Bryan Casey, will carry forward her spirit of compassion and generosity.

Mary was the eldest of nine children, and her siblings, John Bertrand, Joan Arrigo and her husband Thomas, brother-in-law Donald Trier, Joseph Bertrand with his wife Catherine, and Charles Bertrand with his wife Elizabeth, will remember her as a guiding light in their lives. She joins her siblings Helen Martinetti, Grace Deich, Richard Bertrand, and Barbara Trier in eternal rest.

A Valedictorian of Alexander Hamilton high school, and proud graduate with an associate's degree, Mary dedicated her professional life to serving others as a secretary with the Putnam County Department of Social Services in Carmel, NY. Her commitment to her community extended to her involvement with the Secular Franciscan Order where she lived out her Christian faith through service and prayer, and her volunteer work at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center for several years.

Mary's life was a reflection of her priorities: family and faith. She found joy in arts and crafts, expressing her creativity and love for beauty in every piece she created. An avid traveler, Mary embraced the wonders of the world with open arms and a curious heart.

Those who knew Mary would describe her as kind and faith-filled. She embodied the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." Mary's life was a series of small, loving acts that together created a great legacy.

As we bid farewell to Mary Bertrand Tocidlowski, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and grace. Her memory will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Mary's life was a journey of faith, love and kindness and she will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her gentle soul.

Family and friends are welcome to gather for a Visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Cargain Funeral Home, 10 Fowler Avenue, Carmel, NY.

A old friend of Mary & Stan's from the late 50's - mid 60's, until moving to Vermont. Chris & I had a brief reunion with them in North Carolina (2000, if memory serves)

I always had the highest regard for both of them...... & I'm looking forward to a longer reunion on the other side
