Edward “Butch” Boyd, age 77, of Lincolnton, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Atrium Health Lincoln. He was born June 29, 1946 in Lincoln County to the late Jason Boyd and Leona Hudson. Butch was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Army. He served as Director of Communication with Carolina Freight. He went on to work as a sales associate with Sprint and WMIT. He later had the opportunity to land one of his dream jobs working at the Billy Graham Library. After the Library, he landed his other dream job of working at the Cherryville YMCA. Butch was a beloved member of the community and well respected by those who knew him. He was a member of Long Shoals Wesleyan Church, a lay minister, former youth minister, and had served as a hospital chaplain. Butch also served as the former Director of Lincoln County First Responders and was a CPR Instructor. He loved to stay active and worked as a Boy Scout Director, played tennis, and loved his Silver Sneaker group.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Marion Boyd, Jason W. Boyd, Vernon Boyd, Aaron “Lee” Boyd, and Ella May Purdy.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Kathy Hoffman Boyd; daughter, Lea Boyd Binderup (Dave); son, Gary Boyd (Lindsey); grandchildren, Matthew Lail (Jessica), Chandler Hudson (Rylynnd), Hailey Binderup, Kateasha Binderup (Sean), and Brooks Boyd; great-grandchild on the way, Jessie Edward Lail; sisters, Tennie Issac (Steve), Emma Magee, and Delton Cozart; mother-in-law, Joyce Hoffman; sister-in-law, Ruth Boyd; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 2:00PM at Long Shoals Wesleyan Church with Rev. Matthew Lail officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
