Edward Cabrera Castro, 86, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, at his home of 48 years in San Clemente, California.
He was born in Orange, California to Tiodola Cabrera and Pedro Castro. He was raised with a family of nine brothers and one sister in La Jolla, now known as Placentia. He attended La Jolla Grammar School, followed by Valencia High School. He played football and was known by the name of "Scooter" in the Placentia newspaper for his quick skills. He also played the trumpet and marched in the band during school activities. He excelled in his academic studies and was one of the top three students in the Valencia class of 1957.
He married his high school sweetheart, Sylvia Campos, in 1957 and raised three children in Placentia. In 1977 he moved the family to San Clemente. He loved calling San Clemente his home.
He raised his family working as a carpenter, a contractor, and finally as a building inspector. He was a hard worker and could build a house from the ground up.
He loved helping people build their homes, putting in the extra hours to complete them to perfection. He passed his last state concrete inspection test on June 14, 2025. He enjoyed gardening, the Dodgers, driving his 2014 Nissan 370Z, and relaxing on his back patio. He retired on August 7, 2025 not of his own choosing.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sylvia; three children, Joanne Castro Estes, Lisa Howard, and Gary
Castro; son-in-law, Daniel Estes; seven grandchildren, Jaclyn Estes, Christin Castro, Casie Castro, Sonny Castro, William Howard, V, Camille Howard and Ian Howard; two great-grandchildren, Faith Hoffman and Donovan Hoffman; brothers, Freddie Castro, Tony Castro, and sister, Pauline Castro; family members, Nathan Estes and Hailey Howard.
He is preceded in death by his Aguirre brothers, Lupe, Albert and Benjamin; his Castro brothers, Jesus, John and Manuel; his Mama Tiodola Castro and his Papa Pedro Castro; and his son-in-law, William Howard, IV. He leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews and extended family members.
