Edward Caudill, Jr., 86, went to heaven on December 7, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet Caudill (nee Obermeyer), daughter Gwendolyn (Wendy) Caudill, daughter Joan Marquardt, son-in-law Frederick Marquardt, grandsons Tyler and Ryan Marquardt, and brother Ron Caudill.
Ed was born May 14, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Edward and Dorothy Caudill. He was an accomplished athlete in high school playing football, basketball and baseball and also a musician playing the drums in the school band and swing bands. Ed graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a degree in Math where he was a member of the TKE fraternity.
In his career, Ed worked in the early days of computer programming in Cincinnati. He moved his family to Southern California in 1973 to continue working in the fledgling computer industry. Later in life, he became an independent salesman providing video magnification machines to low vision individuals, a calling for him to help people to see. After retiring, Ed and Janet moved to Eagle, Idaho where they enjoyed living on a golf course watching golfers, geese, foxes and an occasional deer strolling by.
Ed was a modern renaissance man and a resolute family man. Besides the drums, he played the organ and piano and made modern art pieces for his home. He was an avid reader who never missed reading the daily newspaper cover to cover. Despite never seeing a game, he also volunteered to coach his daughters' soccer team and became a dedicated referee for many years.
Travel was an important part of his life taking his family on trips throughout the US and internationally. He enjoyed outdoor adventures camping, hiking and whitewater river rafting.
Ed developed dementia later in life which he lived with for many years. Despite his illness, he kept his quick wit and sense of humor charming his caregivers and all those who met him.
