Edward Chu passed away unexpectedly on August 6, 2024 at Phoenixville Hospital at the age of 88. He was surrounded by his two daughters, Patty Kaing and Cathy Hin, and his grandchildren. Mr. Chu was the first of eight siblings to immigrate to the United States from Myanmar (Burma), where he was born on May 1, 1936 to U Ah Hee and Daw Gyi. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, receiving a Bachelor's of Science in Engineering in 1961 and a Masters in Chemistry in 1963. Mr. Chu was a dedicated chemist for DuPont Marshall Laboratory for over 25 years, where he developed several marketable products. He prided himself on his innovation and ingenuity, leading to many patents. Even in his retirement, Mr. Chu harnessed his creativity and love of science to start up, and advise on, various businesses in the US and in Bangkok, Thailand.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Chu; his son, Dr. Calvin Chu; his daughters Melinda Chu, Cathy Hin and her husband Bunny Hin, and Patty Kaing and her husband Hour Kaing; his six grandchildren, whom he cherished deeply: Dylan Kaing, Emily Hin, Mason Kaing, Natalie Hin, Jessica Hin, and Kai Kaing; and his loving siblings: Rosie Yip, Daisy Khaw, Dr. Harvey Chu, Susong Thanse, Ivy Chow, Dr. Holly Lim, Eileen Wong, and Susaik Chu.
Mr. Chu's funeral service will be held at The Bacchi Funeral Home and Crematory, Ltd., 805 DEKALB St. (Rt. 202), Bridgeport, PA on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at 10:30am. His viewing is Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 9:00am to 10:30am at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
