Edward Cockrell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McClam Funeral Home - New Haven on Apr. 30, 2025.
Edward "Big Ed" Cockrell was born on October 15, 1971, in Middletown, Connecticut, to the late Eddie P. Cockrell and Johnnie M. Cockrell. On Monday, April 28, 2025, Ed peacefully transitioned from this life at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, surrounded by the love of his family.
Ed spent his childhood and much of his life in Middletown. He was a proud graduate of Middletown High School, Class of 1991. Over the years, he built a life rooted in community, family, and friendship. Always full of energy and laughter, Ed made lasting impressions wherever he went.
He was known for his love of joy rides, blasting his favorite music, and hitting the trails on his quad with friends. A true foodie at heart, he never turned down a good meal or a good time.
Ed leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories for his daughter, Mikayla Privott of Middletown, CT; his devoted mother, Johnnie Cockrell of Middletown, CT; his brother, Tyrone Cockrell; and six sisters: Gwen Cockrell, Dametros Allen, Vonda Allen, Brandi Bryant, Asia Allen, and Tanaya Allen-all of Middletown. He is also survived by his two eldest nieces, Andrea Drake and Tenika Campbell, along with four additional cherished nieces, one nephew, and a great-niece and great-nephews. His memory will continue to be celebrated by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.
Those who knew Ed best will remember his unmistakable smile-whether it was his big grin or his signature chinky-eyed smirk-his generous spirit, and his legendary two-step. He was always just a phone call away and never hesitated to lend a helping hand or offer a ride.
Though he may be gone from our sight, Ed's light, laughter, and love remain with us. He will be deeply missed and forever held in our hearts.
Repass will be after the burial at First Church, 190 Court St Middletown Ct 06457
