Edward Lee Crago, known to friends and family as Ed, was born on October 16, 1936, on the family farm south of Creston, Iowa, in Union County. He passed away on March 9, 2026, at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, Iowa. Ed's life was marked by his deep connection to both family and the land he cherished.

Ed grew up in a rural setting, receiving his education at local country schools before graduating from Creston High School with the Class of 1955. After completing his education, he worked alongside his brother Bud on the family farm. His dedication to farming continued until he entered the United States Army on July 18, 1959. Following six months of active duty at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Ed returned home and remained in the Army Reserves until his discharge on April 30, 1965.

Upon returning to civilian life, Ed resumed his responsibilities on the family farm, where he became a great steward of the land. In 2001, Ed retired and moved to town. Even in retirement, he continued to work diligently, spending five years working full-time at the Gummy Bear factory. Ed later took on a role as a Greeter at Wal-Mart, where he enjoyed interacting with customers and making new friends.

Throughout his life, Ed was actively involved in his community. He was a respected member of both the Elks Lodge and Eagles Lodge in Creston, as well as being a member of the Farm Bureau.

Ed is survived by his brother, James (Linda) Crago of Shannon City, Iowa; four nieces: Vicki (Tony) Allen of Diagonal, Iowa; Lisa (David) Chapin of Creston, Iowa; Carolyn Ketter of Lake Stevens, Washington; and Rita (Gary) Michels of Fort Collins, Colorado; his special friend, Carolyn Hubatka of Creston, Iowa; along with several great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Josephine (Keefer) Crago; sisters, Dorothy Ellen Baker and Norma Jean Crago; a brother, Arthur Dean "Bud" Crago; sister-in-law, Judy Crago; brother-in-law, Edmund Baker; nephew, James "Jim" Baker and wife, Mary Lynn Baker; and a nephew-in-law, Don Ketter.

Ed will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to his family, and love for the land. His legacy will continue through the many lives he touched in his community. A visitation will be held on March 13, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Creston, Iowa.  A private inurnment will be held in the Harmony Cemetery, south of Creston.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the Brushy Creek Honor Flight.
