Edward Duane Croll of Washougal, Washinton, died peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024, surrounded by family.
Ed, as he was known by his large family and many friends, was born January 10, 1937, in Olympia Washington to Elmer and Laura (Shurtz) Croll. He was raised in the Pacific Northwest in the small community of Washougal for most of his life.
In 1954, Ed volunteered for the U.S. Army. He served his country for almost 4 years, starting with Basic Training in Fort Ord, Calif., stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, with the Light Weapons Battalion, of the Second Infantry Division and served in Korea and Japan. He was proud to receive the National Defense Service medal, the Korean Service medal, and the United Nation Service medal. He was a specialist third class when he was honorably discharged in 1957.
After his military service, he traveled around the US working various jobs. While in Jerome Idaho in 1961 he married Adeline Shurtz, and they moved back to Washougal where he worked and owned a foundry and started working as a salesperson for Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In 1985 he married Marie Warner and worked as a salesperson for a siding company.
Ed also faithfully served in several leadership positions for his church, including stake high councilman, temple ordinance worker, and bishop. He served as full-time service missionary as a transient bishop in the Portland area.
While he truly loved working and serving, Ed did enjoy gardening, fishing, and cooking meals for large family gatherings, everyone loved his potato soup. He especially enjoyed being with his family and singing old classic songs and made up many songs that rhymed with his grandchildren's names.
Ed is survived by his wife Marie; brothers: Richard (Joyce) Tuttle, of Vancouver, Wash.; Leonard Ferguson, of Washougal, Wash.; his children :Sandy Daily, of Newberg, Oregon; Laurie James, of Washougal, Wash.; Debbie Smith, of Vancouver, Wash.; Ruth Feimster, of Harrisburg, North Carolina; Tammy (Lamont) Windham, of Washougal, Wash.; Ramona Brody, of Washougal, Wash.; Don Warner, of Washougal, Wash.; Jim (Teresa) Warner, of Forest Grove, Ore.; Jeanette (Karl) Jacobson, of Salem, Oregon; Allen Warner, of Longview, Wash., and over 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Laura Shurtz Croll; sons: David and Steve Croll and siblings: Arlene, Patricia, Leslie, Milton
Through all the years of his life, he was firm in his faith, tireless in serving others, and constantly devoted to his family.
