Brother Edward Gerald Dailey, C.S.C., age 85, died on July 29, 2024, at Dujarié House, in Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, IN. Born on November 5, 1938 in Indianapolis, IN, to Gerald S. and Henrietta (Tuttle) Dailey, he was the oldest of seven children. He attended St. Philip Neri Elementary School and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1955. That same year in September, he entered the Congregation of Holy Cross as a Brother. In 1960 Brother Edward made his perpetual profession of vows and was assigned to teach at St. John's School in Sekondi, Ghana. Returning to the States in 1966, he spent several years at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, OH. Over the next 55 years, Brother Edward would return to the foreign missions many times teaching in Ghana, Liberia, and Bangladesh. From 2006-2016 he was the secretary for the General Administration of the Congregation of Holy Cross in Rome.
Brother Edward was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Paul, Joseph, Philip, Robert and Stephen. He is survived by his sister, Sister Margaret Ann, OSB, Indianapolis, IN, and sister-in-law, Deb Dailey, Grand Rapids, MI, nephews Matthew, Sean and niece Brooke; sister-in-law, Rene Argabright, Yorktown, VA, nephew James; sister-in-law Minnie Dailey, Louisville, KY, and niece Paula; sister-in-law, Ellen Dailey, Houston, TX, and nephew Tim; and cousins Nancy Tuttle, Bill and Linda Tuttle, and Bob and Phyllis Tuttle.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 9:30-10:30 AM at St. Joseph Chapel of Holy Cross College at Notre Dame. The Mass of Resurrection will then follow with interment afterward in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Holy Cross Village. Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions, in honor of Brother Edward C.S.C., to support the mission and ministries of the Brothers may be sent to: Brothers of Holy Cross, Office of Development, P.O. Box 460, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
