Edward Lawrence Dowd of Mears Michigan passed from this life surrounded by his wife, daughters and family on June 15, 2024 at the age of 83. Edward was the beloved, devoted husband of Faith for 27 years. Also the loving husband of the late Violet Vestevich. Ed was the loving cherished father of Kerry Lynn (Shawn) Lasky and stepdad to Tiffany (Pat) Johnson and Elizabeth (Patrick) Barrow. Edward was the cherished grandfather to Jonathon Barr and Thomas Lasky, Jacob, Julia, Justin Johnson. He was the loving brother of the late Raymond (Carol) Dowd. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and friends between their two homes in Michigan and "Spanish Cove" in Lillian, Alabama.
Edward was born in Detroit on February 11, 1941 to Raymond and Geraldine (Peschke) Dowd. He graduated Western High School in Detroit and after high school he started working at Detroit News Plate and Engraving where he worked with his cousin Skippy. Ed later became employed as a security guard at Cadillac Motorcar Division where he stayed, "29 years 9 months", he always said. Ed retired from General Motors Cadillac Division in August 1993, therefore had been retired for longer than he worked. During his career, he lived in Dearborn Heights with his precious wife Violet and they adopted Kerry from Korea. After Violet's passing, Ed and Faith, long time family friends were married in 1997. They moved to "Dowd on the Farm" in Mears, Michigan, which turned out to be a paradise for Ed. He enjoyed so many hobbies of woodworking, seeing local marching bands and concerts, putzing in his pole barn, keeping their "back 40" trails mowed and clear. In their basement, Ed would play train engineer with his immense train display. Ed must be called a "neat hoarder" as he has more antiques than anyone can image, including many pieces that were his grandparents. Each morning Ed would drink his coffee in the sunroom looking out at his birds and deer that would come to the backyard while making his "to do list" for the day.
