Edd Downey Edward Joseph Downey, 81, retired Cessna Aircraft parts coordinator, died Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Select Specialty Hospital – St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas. Private family services. Edd was born March 28, 1944 at Wichita, Kansas to William Downey and Josephine (Menges) Downey. He grew up in Wichita and attended Mt. Carmel High School. He later graduated from Conway Springs High School with the class of 1962. Edd entered the U.S. Navy on September 7, 1962 where he served his country in Vietnam aboard the USS Hooper. He was honorably discharged on August 29, 1966. Edd worked laying asphalt for Wichita road crews and then for (KETCH) Kansas Elk Training Center for a number of years. He was united in marriage to Cheryl Marie Ternes on November 9, 1973 at Wellington, Kansas. They moved to Hawaii in 1985 where Edd was manager of Island Air Filter Company for seven years. In 1993 they moved to Chesapeake, Virginia where they together managed a Jack Rabbit self-storage unit company. They returned to Wichita in 1996 to work for Cessna Aircraft. Edd retired as a spare parts coordinator in June of 2009. Edd was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Schulte, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Eugene Downey; three sisters: Juanita Vance, Eileen Golden and Betty Ternes. Edd is survived by his wife Cheri Downey; one daughter Stephanie Downey; two grandsons: Devon and Kodi Gandeza all of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters: Carolyn Allen of Wichita, Kansas; Rosie Schuetz of Melbourne, Florida and a number of other relatives and friends. A memorial has been established to the American Lung Association. Ebersole Mortuary, Conway Springs.
