Edward Dumas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Craig Funeral Home on Jan. 12, 2026.
Edward James Dumas III, affectionately known as Jim, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on January 9, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by family. A devout Catholic and parishioner at San Sebastian Catholic Church, Jim lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service.
Born in Wyoming on December 3, 1944, Jim moved as an infant to Cleveland, Ohio, where he spent his early childhood before relocating with his family to West Palm Beach, Florida in 1958. He graduated from Cardinal Newman High School in 1962 and attended Barry University. Shortly after, Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1966 to 1972.
Jim devoted his professional life to civil engineering, working with the Palm Beach County Engineering Department, where his expertise helped shape the community he loved. Beyond his career, Jim was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, an avid gamer, and an avid fan of Notre Dame football.
Married to his beloved wife, Irene MacPhee Dumas, for 57 wonderful years, Jim was the cornerstone of his family. Together, they traveled the world and called St. Augustine home since 2001. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend-but he shined brightest as "Granpa" to Simon, Jordan, and Finn. Known for his mischievous grin and infectious sense of humor, Jim had a gift for bringing joy and laughter to every gathering.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Edward James Dumas Jr. and Betty Dumas. He is survived by his wife Irene; his brother Dick; sister Debbie Dumas-Hand (Steve); daughter Michelle Coolican; son James (Laura); grandsons Simon Coolican and Finn Dumas; granddaughter Jordan Coolican; and several nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.
Jim's legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A memorial Mass will be held at San Sebastian Catholic Church on Thursday, January 22 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bailey Family Center for Caring, Community Hospice & Palliative Care.
