Edward Harold Johnson Jr of Taylor Tx, passed away March 14, 2025. He was born April 14, 1947 in Shreveport, LA to Edward H. Johnson Sr. and Elizabeth Irene Bloxom-Johnson. Ed graduated Taylor High-School in 1965 and he joined the Army after he graduated. His service included 2 ½ tours in Vietnam before returning home. While adjusting to civilian life, he met Sharon Pool and after a whirlwind romance, they married on February 7, 1970. He then joined the Coast Guard and served for 4 years – transferring to active-duty in the Texas National Guard. In all he served an honorable 26 years of Active Duty. He then transitioned into teaching Automotive Tech in the Taylor High School until his teaching retirement. He also served the community on the St Paul Lutheran School Board and later as a substitute teacher at St Mary’s Catholic School and on St Mary’s School Advisory Board.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Elizabeth, sister Irene (Johnson) Sanford and brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Sanford. Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years Sharon Johnson. His son, Matthew Scott Johnson & his wife Stephanie of Kosse, TX. His daughter Laura Janek & her husband Michael Janek Sr. of Taylor, TX. Grandchildren; CariDee Janek, Michael Janek Jr., Sean Kruse, & Bradlee Johnson. Edward also leaves behind extended family, and numerous lifelong friends.
Memorials may be made to St Mary’s Catholic School, Taylor Tx.
Visitation will be held at 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday March 21 at Providence Funeral Home Taylor, TX and with graveside services at 2:00 pm on Saturday March 22 at Taylor City Cemetery.
