Ed, aka "Skeds", "Fast Eddy" Elling 86, of New Hope, MN passed away on July 6th.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 25, at the Church of St. Raphael, Crystal, MN. Visitation one hour prior to service, and luncheon to follow the Mass.
The burial will commence at 2:00pm at Gethsemane Cemetery Crystal, MN.
Ed was born in Brainerd, Mn and moved to Robbinsdale, Mn, where he went to Sacred Heart Catholic School and Parish. He met his lifelong friends in Robbinsdale including his beloved wife of 62 years, Phyllis "Sis" Elling. They were part of the first graduation class from the New Robbinsdale High School in 1957 and this group of friends is still together today, which speaks volumes for the kind of connections he made in his life. Ed was a three-sport athlete in high school, including football, where he was selected for the State All Star Game in his senior year (an all-time honor for Ed). He also played hockey and baseball but ended up forgoing a scholarship in football to enlist in the Naval Reserve where he served for 2 years in Washington D.C. Ed and Sis married in 1963, and had two children, John and Lisa. Ed worked at Northern States Power Company for over 39 years and enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing, and really, all sports. He loved working with kids, coaching youth hockey for years as well as being a goalie coach for Robbinsdale Cooper High School. Ed loved to laugh, especially with family and friends and on occasion, played hilarious pranks on those that could take them. His greatest gift was his story telling and how he could talk to anyone, anywhere, and made them feel like they were the most important person in the room. If we could only have more people like "Skeds" in this world.
Ed is proceeded in death by his daughter, Lisa Bruska and his Parents Virginia and Gus Elling. He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis Elling, son John Elling and wife Sandy, and their children; Ben Elling (Amanda), Addie Elling (Mike) and Joe Elling (Haley). Lisa's children; Brad Bruska (Brads children, Evelyn, Scarlett), Justine Miller (Corey) and Nate Bruska, son in law Randy Bruska and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Ed filled a room with laughter and joy and will be dearly missed by all those that knew him.
Memorials are preferred to: Mr.J Scholarship Fund.
