Lonnie Elling, 83, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025. He was born December 9, 1941 to Freddie and Gladys (Rettig) Elling. He was the second oldest of four siblings born to the couple.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brother, first wife and two sons. Surviving are his ex-wife, Tammy Elling, and their daughter, Hope Elling, his stepson Matthew Angelmyre, his sisters Joyce Sturgel (Ernie) and Judy Anderson. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Maria Guerrero.
Lonnie was a Veteran of the National Guard and a lifelong Teamster. He served as a Union Steward at Omni Source, where he was employed for 8 years. He retired in 2000 due to health concerns.
In his younger years, he was a devoted dance, theater and baseball dad. He was a collector of coins, Budweiser mugs and baseball caps. He loved to start his day on the porch with a cup of coffee. He enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife, gardening, and do it yourself projects.
Anyone who knew Lonnie knew he had a strong faith in God. Though his family grieves his loss, they rejoice that he is now in Heaven, singing with the Angels.
Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home assisted the family with coordination of Lonnie's wishes, and a private Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.rodenbergergray.com.
