Edward Freitas, age 97, of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home, with his daughter and son-in-law by his side on March 6, 2026.

Edward was born in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, on April 11th, 1928. He was the beloved son of Edward Freitas and Mary Amaral Freitas.

He began his professional life at E.M. Munson, where he worked for several years. Later, Edward was employed by New Bedford Public Schools, continuing his dedication until his retirement in 2002.

Edward had a deep passion for building stone walls, walkways, and enthusiastically took on any project that required physical effort. Above all, he found great joy in riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, especially when riding alongside his friends.

Edward had a special place in his heart for stray cats. Each day, he devoted time to ensuring they were well-fed, never missing a meal. His dedication went beyond providing food—he also made sure these animals had a safe and comfortable place to stay. Caring for them was not just an act of kindness, but a daily priority in his life.

Known for his tough exterior, Edward was truly kindhearted. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

More than anything, Edward cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. He found immense happiness in attending their baseball and football games, enjoying their performances, taking them shopping, and sharing countless special moments—whether entertaining them or being entertained by them.

He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Travers, and son-in-law, Richard Travers, whom he loved like a son; his grandchildren, Krystle Angelo, Jade Mello, Glenn Taber, Jr., and Matthew Taber; and his great-grandchildren, Cadence Santos, Tristan Santos, Christian Santos, Dominic Costa, and Aubrey Mello, his son Edward Freitas and his wife Nicole along with daughters Hope and Faith. Edward is also survived by his sister, Claire Pickering, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings: George, Herbert, Richard, Isabelle, Hilda, Alice, Mildred, Dorothy, and Norma.

While we honor Edward's memory, please keep him in your thoughts and offer a prayer for him.

In accordance with his families wishes, Edward will be cremated.
