Edward “Eddie” Fry passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on June 22,2025 at the age of 87 after an extended illness. Born in Mount Vernon, OH. on August 21, 1937, Eddie lived a life best described as a steady provider, who was a pillar of strength for his family and friends. Eddie could fix anything, and was always quick to lend a helping hand whenever needed.
He began his career with the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) in 1955, and became a journeyman in 1959. In 1974, he became Business Manager of Local #55, serving for 15 years before becoming an International Representative for Region 5, until his retirement in 1998. Eddie was known for his strong leadership, work ethic, and genuine care for the welfare of the union members he served.
He and his wife, Joan, were blessed to share over 20 years of retirement in their happy spot in Nokomis, Florida, enjoying fishing, card games with friends and long car rides together.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joan Celesta Fry; his parents, Jack and Letha Fry; his sister, Joyce; his brother, Danny, sister in law, Janet Fry, and son in law, David Ocock.
He is survived by his children: Carol Ocock, Brad (Michelle) Fry, Christi (Micah) Edmonds, and Jarrod (Michelle) Fry.
He was a proud grandfather to: Brandon (Meagan Van Meter) and Brock Lamb, Logan (Annie) , Shane (Brooke) and Holden Edmonds, Morgan Ocock, Mackenzie (Mason) Hill, Jayson (Katie) Schultz, Mary Schultz, Nathaniel Schultz, and Matthew, Emma and Abbie Fry. He is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren, siblings Diane (Wayne) Lash, Marcia (Allan) McLane, Roger Fry, and brother and sister in law, Pat and Kitty Whitehead.
The family is so grateful to the many who provided loving care to Eddie over the past five years, including Angie, Liz ,Karen, Shanika, Asiana, Jacey, Dawn, Dannell Nicole, Tyler, Hannah, KK, Cierra, Willa, Maya, Tabitha, Kristina, Raven, Tasha, Tomeika, and Sandy. Special thanks to Capital City Hospice and to the amazing Jme for providing care beyond compare, always with dignity.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 5:00-7:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. .A service to honor Eddie’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 10:00am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Alton Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Capital City Hospice.
