Edward Eugene Geiger, 79, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away Friday, November 29, 2024, at home. Born December 24, 1944, in Wolf Lake, Indiana he was a son of the late W. Wayne and Eva (Zumbrun) Geiger.
He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1963. Ed proudly served in the United States Army. On January 14, 1967, he married Karen S. Baublit. After Ed was discharged from the Army he attended engineer training school and became a railroad engineer for 40 years. Ed was also an active member of Judds Basement Weightlifting Club. He was a lifelong weightlifter and placed first in the ADFPF Single Lift Nationals on April 5, 2008. Ed was a silver medalist in the world nationals in weightlifting in 2011. He was active in local Whitley County churches before moving to Fort Wayne and was baptized in 2021.
Ed was an avid fisherman whose peaceful afternoons by the water were a source of joy and reflection. His love for nature extended beyond fishing; he was an animal lover who treasured the companionship of all creatures great and small. Ed's connection to the land was evident in his enjoyment of farming and hunting, activities that brought him closer to his roots and the beauty of the outdoors.
Music was another of Ed's great loves, particularly country music, which often filled his home with melodies that resonated with the stories of his life. Family was always a priority for Ed, and he found immense happiness in spending quality time with his grandchildren and passing on his stories. Those moments together created lasting memories and were a testament to his dedication to his loved ones.
Ed is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Michael (Shane) Geiger, Jody (Chris) Askins, and David (Sherry) Geiger; grandchildren, Zack (Jessica) Geiger, Blake (Ashley) Askins, Paige Askins, Candace Geiger, Chance Geiger, Adyson Curtis, Ciera Geiger, and Adria Geiger; great-grandson, Isaac Askins; brother, Clay (Sandy) Geiger; and several nieces and nephews.
