Edward Kent Griffy

July 5, 1939 - July 1, 2025

DECATUR - Edward Kent Griffy, 85, of Decatur, Ill., passed away at 9:24 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in his home.

Ed was born on July 5, 1939, in Effingham, Ill., to Paul and Helena (Akins) Griffy. He graduated from Clinton High School. After graduation he worked for Revere Copper and Brass. In 1965, he moved to Decatur to work for Caterpillar. He completed the two-year training and became a supervisor. Ed retired after 35 years at Caterpillar where he met many wonderful people and hard workers.

Ed was a fixer and liked to tinker; his first love was motors, which were mostly motorcycles, older cars, and any kind of motor that needed attention. He could fix and repair plumbing, electrical, woodworking, etc... He restored many old homes in the historical part of Decatur.

He was married to Wyllene Amason Griffy for 61 years, and they had two sons, Paige Griffy and wife Lori of Decatur, Ill., and Kortney Griffy and Kerri of Godfrey, Ill.; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Hillary Griffy of Decatur, Ill.; and one brother, Larry Griffy of Buffalo, Mo.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents.

Ed was a good and decent man, teacher of the trades, family provider and kind to those who really knew him. We'll miss him.

A graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, Ill.
