Edward Louis Heil

Edward Louis Heil, 92, of Myrtle Beach, passed away on July 30, 2023, at Brightwater Skilled Nursing Center. Edward was born on July 1, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Edward and Ruth Heil. In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his brother William Heil and his daughter Mary Ellen Scardo.
As a young man, Edward proudly served in the United States Army. He was a Staff Sergeant at the Military Police Station in Berlin, Germany during the Korean War. Later, Edward graduated from Rutgers University with his bachelor's degree. Edward then worked for First Fidelity Bank and during that time he served as the President of the Mortgage Bankers Association of New Jersey, the President of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, and was also admitted to the Mortgage Bankers of America Legion of Honor. Edward had a long and distinguished career in banking for 39 years. He retired as Executive Vice President of First Fidelity Bank in 1991.
In his leisure time, Edward was an avid golfer and a long-term member of the Rock Spring Club in West Orange, New Jersey until he moved to South Carolina. Edward loved being part of the Pine Ridge Men Club and Bowling League when he lived in Florida. Above all else, Edward was a devoted husband to his wife Dorothy and was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a kind, gracious, and humble person who made everyone around him feel welcome. He was the epitome of a first-class gentleman and a consummate professional who was quick to share his knowledge and experience with those around him.
Edward is survived by a large and loving family, including his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy; his son Edward (Rona), his daughter Carolyn (Ronald), his daughter Cynthia (Mark), his son-in-law Frank Scardo; his grandchildren Christopher (Lauren), Benjamin, Maureen (Patrick), Marianne, Shannon (Jack), Kelly, Edward, and Eric; his great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Reid; and a third great-grandchild due in September.
A memorial mass will be held to honor Edward on Saturday, August 12, at 12:00 PM Noon at Frassati Catholic Church (1300 Carolina Forest Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579).
