Edward Hemp Obituary
He was an active 72-year-old who is survived by the love of his life, Lynn Arritt Hemp, whom he was married for 52 years. They began dating in high school and got married on June16, 1973.
He was the son of the late William Houston Hemp, Jr. and the late JoEtta Fortney Hemp who preceded him in death. He was also proceeded in death by a brother-in-law Steven Arritt. He was the brother to Houston (Charlene) Hemp of Midlothian, Virginia and Sheryl (John) Stone of Covington, Virginia. He was the brother-in-law to Frank Arritt of Clifton Forge, Virginia and Mary (Mike) Guth of Covington, Virginia.
Left to cherish his memories, are his four children and eleven grandchildren. His daughters and son in laws: Michelle and Scott May (Brady and Alexis), Mindy and John Gardzinski (Brennen, Bayley, and Jason), Megan and Brent May (Madeline, Evan, and Holden), and son and daughter in law Jason and Amanda Hemp (Veda, Blake, Ethan).
'E', as he was affectionately known to his grandchildren, loved the Lord and his family. He enjoyed golfing (especially with his Senior golf buddies), hunting, fishing, and most of all spending time with his family. He also loved animals and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a great role model and will be greatly missed.
Ed owned Hemp Insurance in Covington, Virginia and was a father figure to many of the employees who worked there over the years.
You are invited to his Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend David Brown officiating. In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated. The family will receive family and friends after the service on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, please give a donation of supplies or a monetary donation to the Alleghany Humaine Society in his memory; 9313 Rich Patch Rd, Covington, VA 24426.
