Edward Lee "Sonny" Hill was born in Austin, Travis County, Texas, on April 25, 1945. He was called home to our Lord on May 29, 2025. He was the fourth born of ten children.
Edward was preceded in death by his father, Will Hill, Sr.; his mother, Mrs. Eliza Johnson Hill; his youngest son, Edrick Dermont Hill; three brothers, Tommy Eugene Hill, Henry Hill, and Alfred Johnson; and one sister, Minnie Hill (all of Austin).
When Edward was a boy, his father gifted him the name "Sonny" as a term of endearment for "Son." He attended public schools: L.L. Campbell Elementary and Kealing Jr. High and graduated in the Class of 1963 from The Old Anderson High School, where he was voted the "BEST DRESSED MALE" of his peers.
Edward took great pride in his attire and appearance. He stayed "sharp" - coordinating his tailor-made fashions with ties, hats, crocodile, alligator, shark, ostrich, and lizard-skinned shoes with the belts to match.
"This is what a man looks like when he's doing good."
He accepted Jehovah at an early age. He had a love of animals for pets: turtles, rabbits, game cock roosters, ducks, geese and his dogs.
Edward's family was an extremely important part of his life. He was united in marriage to Winnie Collins on April 3, 1981, and recently celebrated 44 years of marriage.
He had a stellar work ethic. He provided for his family throughout the years and achieved many levels as a Tracor machine technician in the 1960's then moved on to The City of Austin, where he retired from Power and Lights after 25 years of service in 1996.
During his retirement years, he enjoyed tending to his English Mastiff (Skibo), two pit bulls (Jake & Boomer), some traveling, and spending time with loved ones and friends.
He was well known. A man of integrity. He will long be remembered for his helping hand, keen sense of humor, witty way with words, lessons, and the laughter he left on many hearts.
He leaves to cherish his memories; wife Winnie Hill; son Edward Lee Hill Jr. (Erica); daughters Phyllis Denice Hill, Coretta Lynn Hill (Tyrone); brothers James Hill (Fort Lauderdale, FL), Will Hill, Jr., and Vernon Dan Hill (Dernise); sisters Mary Hill-Nash (Floyd) and Patricia Ann Harper (Jeff); eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and a host of loving relatives and friends.
