Edward Arthur Hyne Sr., passed away peacefully at his home in Copake, on November 1, 2025, with his loving daughter by his side. He was born on April 25, 1930, in Huntington, New York, the son of Edward and Anna (Miller) Hyne. Ed grew up on Long Island . A proud veteran, Ed enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1949 to 1952. He also received a commendation thanking him for his service in Korea. His dedication to service extended beyond his military career; he was a member of the local VFW post, showcasing his continued commitment to serving his community. On December 7, 1952, Edward married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Baumbach). They were married and honeymooned at Jug End Barn in Egremont, Ma, never realizing they would retire in the area.
Throughout his professional life, Ed served as the superintendent of the Roosevelt Field Shopping Center in Garden City, a role that he held until his retirement. He was known for building and fixing things. Following his retirement, he and Betty relocated to Copake, where he continued to engage actively in the community and pursue his hobbies.
Ed’s interests were varied, and he found great pleasure in being an avid golfer, participating in local leagues, and exploring the East Coast with Betty in their motorhome. Boating on Long Island Sound was another of his favorite pastimes, reflecting his deep appreciation for the beauty of nature. Involved with the local Young at Hearters, where he and Betty would go to fellowship and socialize. One of his proudest accomplishments was constructing his and Betty's cherished retirement home in Copake, a testament to his skills and dedication.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Beth Bodemann, and her husband, David. He took great joy in being a grandfather to David (Emily) Bodemann, Daniel (Kristen) Bodemann, and Jennifer (Josh) Duer, as well as a great-grandfather to Kaylee Bodemann and Lochlan Duer. In addition to his sister, Frances Hoyer. Edward Hyne Sr. will be remembered for his kind spirit, his commitment to family, and his contributions to both his community and the nation he served
He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 2023 and by his son Eddy Hyne Jr. in August of this year.
A time for sharing memories and offering condolences will be on Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 8063 Route 22, Copake, New York. where a memorial service will begin at 1:00pm. Inurnment will take place privately in St. Thomas Churchtown Cemetery, where both Ed and Betty will be laid to rest together.
