Wednesday, October 22, the world lost one of its kindest and most generous souls, Edward
Martin Kura of Lakeway, Texas.
Ed was born on July 8, 1938, to Anne and Martin Kura, immigrants from Czechoslovakia and
was raised in Blairmore, Alberta. After getting a brief taste of life in the coalmines, he quickly
realized that path wasn't for him and set his sights higher and off to the University of Oklahoma
he went, where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering. This achievement would open the
door to an extraordinary career and a lifetime of friendships and wonderful memories.
Shortly after returning from OU, fate led him to meet the love of his life, Joan. They were
married on September 5, 1964, in Calgary, Alberta. That day began an incredible 61year
marriage based on love, respect, unwavering devotion. Ed and Joan were truly inseparable.
Together, they traveled the world, built lifelong friendships, and created a marriage that has
served as an inspiration to everyone lucky enough to know them. Their relationship was a living
example of love, commitment, and the power of family bonds that endure through every season
of life.
Ed loved his family with all his heart, but he also found great joy in OU football, traveling,
fishing, and golf. He was also a man of deep faith. He was an active member of St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Plantersville, Texas. Through his service and worship there, he formed a
lasting friendship with Father Ed, who will be leading his Celebration of Life.
Professionally, Ed had a long and distinguished career with Chevron Chemical Company,
retiring in 2000 as Vice President of the Plastics Division. His work took the family from
Vancouver BC to Moraga Ca and eventually to Houston Tx.
Although Ed had a remarkable career, his greatest joy in life was being a husband, father, Papa,
and friend. He was a man of integrity and faith who lived each day with love, purpose, and
gratitude. He led quietly but powerfully and left a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering
devotion to those he loved most.
He is survived by his lovely wife Joan, his children Steven (Alisa), Brian (Nancy), Cathy and
David, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plantersville, Texas, at 1:00
p.m. on Saturday, November 15.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ALS Society of America in Ed's
memory. https://www.als.org/
