Edward J. Lancaster Sr., born July 2, 1940, passed on to his eternal reward on July 18, 2024. He was a loving husband to Karen Wingerter Lancaster, and adoring father of Elaine Ruth Lancaster Parish (Cory), Edward James Lancaster, Jr., Craig Lancaster (deceased) and Ian Lancaster(deceased). He also leaves behind a grandson, Sentry Parish, and two sisters, Barbara Jean Lichtfuss and Dorothy Elaine Markey Hladke. Ed was predeceased by his mother Ruth Nolan Lancaster, father Olen Lancaster and sister Joyce Tally.
Ed was born in Atlanta and moved to New Orleans in his youth. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School and St. Aloysius High School. He moved to Kenner, LA in 1988 where he became a member of the Alliance for Good Government: Jefferson Chapter, editor of "The Kenner Voice," as well as founding member and past President of Citizens for a Better Kenner. He was active in politics and an avid campaign participant in many elections. He moved to Abita Springs in 2007 where he was affectionately dubbed "Mayor" of Jarrel Road. He remained a member of the Alliance for Good Government in St. Tammany Parish.
Ed worked for Xerox Corporation for 34 years before retiring. He also served in the Air National Guard. Ed loved working with his hands, and woodworking and blacksmithing were some of his favorite hobbies. He was a long time member of the Louisiana Metalsmiths Association and the Artist-Blacksmith Association of North America. An experienced traveler, he visited Alaska twice, Europe several times, the Grand Canyon, Canada, and many other places. He rode his Harley Road King up the coast to Myrtle Beach and cross-country to Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Ed, an enthusiastic reader, could never be without his book, and especially loved Historical Fiction. He loved his family very much, including his "little dog," Sadie, who went everywhere with him.
Ed was a devout Catholic and Parishioner of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Covington, Louisiana. Services will be held there on Thursday, July 25th. Visitation will start at 10am, with Mass begining at 11am. Burial to follow at Abita Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Masses in Ed's memory, or donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital or St. Joseph's Indian School.
