Edward Horace LeGrand

On Sunday, August 25, 2024, Edward Horace LeGrand, age 90, ended his earthly journey.
Born March 22, 1934 in Columbia, SC, Edward Horace, was the sixth child of ten, born to Louie LeGrand and Bonnie LeGrand. He graduated with the Class of 1952 from Blythewood School, in Richland County, South Carolina. On Christmas Eve 1952, he married Kathleen Brown of Eagle Springs, NC.
Horace (also known as Ed), is preceded in death by his sweet wife of 70 years, Kathleen LeGrand (2022). Also, his parents Louie Lewis LeGrand & Bonnie Griffin LeGrand, and eight siblings; Alvin LeGrand, Melvin LeGrand, Marvin LeGrand, Myrtis LeGrand, Alma LeGrand Padgett, Elsie LeGrand Gawrys, Elton LeGrand, and Lavern LeGrand.
Horace is survived by his son, Keith LeGrand (Gala), two grandchildren, Brandon Keith LeGrand (Kelli) and Kara LeGrand Beaman (Alan), and four great-grandchildren, Brantson LeGrand, Karli LeGrand, Eli Beaman and Jacob Beaman. He also is survived by his last sibling; Leland LeGrand of Lugoff, SC, and many nieces and nephews.
Growing up in a large family, Horace's ties to South Carolina remained strong throughout his life. Routine drives to SC for visits and celebrations were constant. His family was most cherished in his mind and heart. In the early 1950's, fate had it, that he would meet the love of his life Kathleen, and then - his oldest brother Alvin, would fall in love with Pauline, Kathleen's sister. Well, he and his brother became brother-in-law's and neighbors too, throughout the remainder of their lives. Once Horace and Kathleen married, Horace relocated to Eagle Springs. He built their home, and within weeks, Horace was drafted and served in the US Army (1956-1958). Basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, followed by Fort Sam Houston, TX and Fort Benning, GA. Upon completing his 2-year Army obligation, his career began with employment at Robbins Mill Group of Aberdeen. Later, Ed became the Planning Manager of Deering Milliken Incorporated (Milliken and Company – Robbins Division). He retired with 37 years of service when the Robbins Plant closed its doors in 1990. Many friends and experiences at Milliken, defined what a special manager, sincere person and faithful friend he was to all. Shortly after retirement, a team of owners/managers of Candor Hosiery, valued Ed's years of management experience with Milliken, and asked him to return to the workforce and assist at Candor Hosiery/Robbins Division. Of course, "Ed" accepted this opportunity to stay busy working for a few more years. He happily volunteered at the Robbins Christian Ministry Store, and he served on the Board of Directors of Northern Moore Tomorrow (NMT), for several years. However, it was evident to everyone, that Horace's favorite job was being a dedicated father, grandpa and great grandpa.
For over 65+ years, Horace was a faithful member, elder and Sunday school teacher at Rock Hill Friends Church. He loved volunteering for any task at hand to support church outreach. The love he had for God, his church and music, was evident. He adored singing alongside Kathleen, she was a gifted pianist. He cheered on anyone who had musical talents, particularly his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved singing hymns and listening to music from the 50's and 60's era, and was honored to sing at weddings, funerals, revivals, etc. Horace, a true gentleman from beginning to the end! He loved to travel, read, and loved collecting oil lamps. Honeybuns was his favorite choice for a mid-morning snack, and cookies and chocolate candy were a staple at his house. Did we mention coconut cake was his favorite? Most of his acquaintances can attest to these true facts. His character was true and his person was loved. Horace's legacy is one of love, resilience, a lifelong faithfulness to his spiritual beliefs and commitments, as well as his dedication to the well-being of his family and others. He leaves behind his family and a community of individuals who will forever be inspired by his unwavering love, selflessness, and the positive impact he made in everything that surrounded him. His personal motto was followed closely – "Do all you can do, but, be dedicated to all you do".
Think of stepping on shore and finding it Heaven!
Of taking hold of a hand and finding it God's!
Of breathing a new air and finding it Celestial!
Of feeling invigorated and finding it immortality!
Of passing from storm and stress to a perfect calm!
Of waking and finding it Home!

Visitation at 2pm on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Rock Hill Friends Church (Eagle Springs) and the funeral service will follow at 3pm. Rev. David Roudabush will be officiating.
