Edward A. "Ed" Markel, 83, died March 29, 2024, at his home in Pretty Prairie.
He was born Nov. 17, 1940, in Hoisington, Kansas the son of Earl and Doris Knight Markel. A longtime Pretty Prairie resident, he was a former President of Master Machine and was a former partner of Percision Pattern.
Ed was a member of the Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church; and was an alumnus of Kansas University.
On May 14, 1976, he married Judith K. "Judy" Bolinger; she died April 15, 2022. Survivors include son Daryl Markel and his wife Lynette; daughters Aimee Jones, Connie Vogt and Liz Shepherd; sister Vicki Michel; grandchildren Travis (Julie) Vogt, Justin (Rita) Vogt, Kacie (Brady) Herman, Connor (Cass) Owen, Hunter (Wren) Owen, Stefanie Markel, Zac Mitchell, Jimmy (Tina) Mitchell, Raven (TJ) Lane, Tony (Julie) Markel, Andrea (Cody) Hastings; great-grandchildren Taylor and Tannon Vogt, Carson and Caden Herman, Shooter and Piper Vogt, Duncan Owen, Lucas and Elyna Mitchell, Avrey, Jesse and Jaxon Mitchell, Leslie and Warren Lane, Kenna and Kimber Markel, Eli and Ezra Hastings.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m, Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman. Burial will be in the Lone Star Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the Ed and Judy Markel High School Scholarship or the Pretty Prairie Community Scholarship, both in care of Livingston Funeral Home, 1830 N. Main, Kingman, KS 67068.
