Edward Charles Maxa Jr., age 76, of Burt, Michigan, passed away on December 17, 2025. He was born on January 24, 1949, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Edward C. Maxa Sr and Narice (Bigger) Maxa.
Ed was a graduate of Chesaning High School, Class of 1967. Following graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country with honor during the Vietnam War. While deployed, Ed faced the hardships of combat and was wounded in action. For his bravery and sacrifice, he was awarded the Purple Heart, a testament to his courage and dedication to his fellow Marines and his nation. After coming back home he built a long and respected career with the Saginaw County Road Commission, where he worked for more than 30 years, retiring as a superintendent. Known for his strong work ethic and hands-on knowledge, Ed truly was a man of many talents, with the ability to tackle any task.
On October 10, 1970, Ed married the love of his life, Debra (Walker) Maxa. Together they shared over five decades of marriage and raised their family of 4.
Ed enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, cooking and staying busy.
Ed is survived by his children, Jason (Graceson) Maxa, Jarod "Gus" (Tricia) Maxa, Nicholas (Arynn) Maxa, Justin (Sarah) Maxa; grandchildren, Hudson Maxa, Luke Maxa, Bryson Maxa, Layton Maxa, Lincoln Maxa, Finn Maxa, Jayden Maxa, Austin Hunt, and Ian Maxa; his siblings Violet (Ken) Wendling, Danial Maxa, and Dianne (Kevin) Card.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra and sister, Marilyn Kisser.
A funeral mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday December 23, 2025 11 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church. The family will receive friends on Monday December 22, 2025 from 2 PM to 7 PM at McGeehan Funeral Homes Martin Chapel.
