This is a late post, only because I didn’t find a place to post. Ed was a force all his own. Brave, strong and a solid mind. Maybe a little mischievous too. (Stories). Ed and his family ( especially Ed’s older sister) meant so much to my dad Stan Curtis, “Bean” and because of the love you gave my dad, he was able to also love. Ed was a very good friend to dad, and I am grateful for that. I want to say thank you Ed for the friendship you gave so freely. Ed touched many people and I am sure he’s having more fun in the next place. Thanks Ed. Also “hi” to his nephew

I attended his lecture and sweat lodge at Lily Dale, NY, many years ago. He was wonderful and I got his Rainbow Tribe book. I just ordered Mother Earth Spirituality. He was a true visionary. He gave me my name in the lodge, Tate Wazi.

He gave me my spirit name in a sweat lodge at Lily Dale many years ago. He was a great man.

I will always miss his wit and wisdom. A great teacher, friend, and spiritual advisor to me. A warrior from the old school that serves as a beacon of"Eagle Vision" to the fraternity of fellow Veterans.

I spent half a day discussing our lives while I was visiting the Crazy Horse Monument many years ago. We were both Vietnam era soldiers. I respected him greatly from our discussion and his books, but I wasn't spiritual enough to really grasp his deep wisdom. Now at age 71, I will be reading his works. After talking with him he gave me a Native Indian name: Minni Nagi Wichastah (Water Spirit Warrior), because I love the water (Minni), he perceived me as a spiritual being (Nagi), and he saw me another warrior (Wichastah). Rest in peace Eagle Man.

Learned very late (Jan 2019) of Ed's passing. We were friends through flight school and serving in a Marine Helicopter Squadron (HMM-264) in the mid-1960s. We reconnected much later after my wife brought home one of his books from the store she managed. He was a truly great human being and a good "warrior."

Ed McGaa has had a significant impact on all that is good in our country. I met Ed in 2001 when he took me to see Bear Butte for the first time and taught me the significance of its importance. He remained a teacher to me and a wonderful supporter of our organization, International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros. He donated many of his books for our use and we continue to sell them. He has been an inspiration to all and he will be dearly missed. May the "horse spirits" watch over you on the other side.

While reading and re-reading "Crazy Horse and Chief Red Cloud," I found myself underlining passages and making notes in the margins--thinking I would write to the author and, perhaps, be fortunate enough to engage him in discussion...which sent me to the internet to do some research...so it is only just now that I've learned of his passing. I offer my belated, but sincere, condolences to his family and friends. I, too, mourn the loss of this wichastah whose pen was as mighty as--or perhaps mightier than--the sword. Thankfully, his words will live on for those of us who wish to learn...to honor the rich culture he was determined to see revive and survive...to create a better future for us all.

Just want to say that after being a huge fan of Mother Earth Spirituality, Eagle Man and I connected and he sent me a copy of his Black Elk 4, and we exchanged some e-mails on the subject of history (I have taught history for about 17 years). I wanted to explain how amazingly inspiring he was to me, and how much I have learned and transmitted to thousands of students in Colorado, Georgia and back to Colorado again. His legacy will forever be here with us. Thank you to his son for putting us in touch, and while it is hard to hear that his physical body is gone after pancreatic cancer, I know his spirit will live for many generations to come!

I met Eagle Man as he held a sweat at Sacred Lands in Florida. Before the sweat lodge, he shared his knowledge of mother Earth spirituality and his great humor with the crowd. He cared deeply about people and the environment. He embraced all peoples, was duly critical of organized Christianity. He spoke of Black Elk's vision and real truth being in nature. Thank you Ed for being with us and sharing yourself, beautiful man. Fly free and easy.

I will truly miss Ed McGaa but his journey will be beautiful as he brought much needed wisdom to the planet. I have learned much through his books and have had the fortunate opportunity to share a few emails in which we discussed the various wisdom traditions of the world. He was also kind to make a necklace for me! Toksa akhe!
