New Iberia – Services will be held at a later date for Edward Stefan Migues, 75, who passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
A lifelong resident of New Iberia, Edward Stefan Migues was born on April 13, 1950, to the late Reed Joseph and Mavley Derouen Migues, and was a 1969 graduate of NISH. He dedicated 30 years of his life to working offshore as a crane operator, a role he performed with both skill and integrity. After retirement, he continued to work part-time as a shop hand for Dynamic Industries, embodying the values of hard work and commitment.
From a young age, Edward harbored a fascination for coins, cultivating a collection that spoke to his curiosity and appreciation for history. His passions didn’t stop there; he boasted an impressive dragon collection that stood as a testament to his unique interests. Edward was known as the neighborhood's self-proclaimed "Neighborhood Patrolman," always keeping a watchful eye on the community he loved so dearly.
Edward found joy in the simple pleasures of life—whether it was going to the movie theater, cutting his grass, or picking pecans, each activity brought him satisfaction. He liked to stay busy; he was frequently found piddling in his shed, building, and tinkering, endlessly creating with his hands.
Though his children recently discovered a fishing license tucked away, he was never known to cast a line. Instead, Edward found joy in the laughter and love of his grandchildren, who were undoubtedly his pride and joy. The time spent with them was filled with warmth, teaching them life lessons and creating cherished memories.
Mr. Migues is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Rita Gary Migues; children, Dolly Migues, Johnny Migues (Raquel), Jammie Gibson (Matthew LaPorte), and Gina Goodney (Alex); and grandchildren, Rickey Reed, Jr., Morgan Reed (Tristian Gaudet), Heidi Migues, Haidyn Migues, Jordyn Gibson, Anden Abshire, Peyton Abshire, Elijah Francis, Gage Chevalier, and Rosemarie Chevalier.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant children, Edward Stefan Migues, Jr., and Amy Migues; grandchildren, Jaxon Thomas Chevalier and Macy Lynn Migues; and a sister, Dolly Faye Migues Faasen.
Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Migues, Alex Goodney, Elijah Francis, Joel Hernandez, Grady Thibodeaux, Anden Abshire, and Gage Chevalier.
Edward leaves behind a world more colorful than he found it. He will remain in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace.
