Edward Moreno, 58, of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday afternoon, May 14, 2024.  Edward was born on August 6, 1965, in Brownfield, Terry County, Texas, to the late Jose Moreno and Maclovia (Medrano) Moreno.

Edward attended Frenship schools and graduated with the senior class of 1983.  He later attended South Plains College, where he obtained an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement.  He also attended Wayland Baptist University and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.  He worked as a parole officer for Lubbock County for many years, before retiring in 2017.

He met the love of his life, Susan Ortega, and they were united in marriage on June 11, 1988, in Lubbock, Texas

Edward loved to fish, cook and smoking brisket and ribs.  He enjoyed hanging out with his kids and grandkids.  He took great pride in his yard and worked hard to maintain it.  He was interested in sports and played softball in area leagues around Lubbock.  He was an enthusiast of the Giants and the Dallas Cowboys, as well as all Texas Tech sports.  He had a hell of a sense of humor, along with bad and good jokes, and was a people person who knew how to talk to people.  According to his family, he had no filters on his speech and his creative freedom as a “dirty old man.” He was a member of Church on the Rock – South Campus.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Susan; two sons: Oscar Alvarado and wife Trisha of Lubbock, and Marcus Moreno and wife Brittney of Lubbock; his stepfather, Domingo Martinez of Lubbock; one sister, Annette Ortega of Lubbock, and a special niece, Natalie Martinez and husband Roy of Lubbock.  He also leaves behind seven grandchildren:  Nick Lopez, Jocilynn Alvarado, Ian Alvarado, Layla Alvarado, Davis Moreno, Madison Moreno and Carter Moreno; two great-grandchildren:  Levy Lopez and Pyper Lopez.  He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, George Bryan Ortega.

A visitation for Edward will be held from 10 AM to 4 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel, 2210 Broadway in Lubbock.  Funeral services will follow at 4 PM, also in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel.  Deacon Manuel Lopez, of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, will be the officiant.   Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory. Inurnment of his cremated remains will be held later at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
