Edward Leo O'Callaghan, 88, of Lawrence, MA, passed away on Wednesday May 8, 2024, at Lawrence General Hospital.
Born in Somerville, MA, he was the son of the late William and Emily (Walsh) O'Callaghan. Growing up with his four brothers, Edward was a graduate of the St. Clement School in Medford, MA, Class of 1954. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Waldo County, LST-1163. For over forty-five years Edward was employed at Boston Edison. Prior to his retirement he had been a supervisor there for many years.
"Okie," as we all know him, was an avid reader, movie watcher, and storyteller. Mr. O was the man to call when you had a question, needed help, or just wanted someone to talk to. He and his wife spent their years traveling across the country, have taken trips to Ireland, and were members of the Lawrence Elks Lodge #65. During his life, his family and friends had the honor to watch him become an exceptional son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle. We leave you with his favorite reminder, to always "stay safe."
Edward will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Rita R. O'Callaghan of Lawrence, MA, granddaughter, Emily A. Cortes of Lawrence, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews. Edward was predeceased by his wife of sixty years, Irene (Dunlap) O'Callaghan, son, Edward O'Callaghan, Jr., brothers, William, Francis, Thomas, and Joseph O'Callaghan.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to calling hours on Wednesday May 15, 2024, from 10 AM to 12 PM, at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 PM, in the funeral home, followed by burial at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence, MA.
The Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home is honored to serve the O'Callaghan family.
