Edward Orner died on August 23, 2025 after a brief illness. Prior to that, and true to his strong spirit at age 90, he lived alone and frequently walked up to the nearby Folcroft Diner. A lifelong resident of Sharon Hill, he was born November 12, 1934, the son of Harold and Rose Orner.
He was pre-deceased by his older brother Richard with whom he shared many happy times.
He attended Sharon Hill High School and soon after, married the love of his life, Dolores (nee Monaghan, died 2016). Ed and Dolores were the loving parents of three children: Edward (Ann Marie); Tommy (Judy); and Joanne (Rich Schwenke). They were actively involved in many activities in Sharon Hill including coaching softball.
Ed worked for over 30 years for Gulf Oil and proudly retired at age 53 as the Director of Safety for the Philadelphia Refinery. During retirement, he was busier than ever, walking miles a day in Sharon Hill, traveling, and helping to care for his 7 grandchildren: Sean (Diana); Brianne (Kurt Reed); Caitlin (Pat Gallagher); Brendan (Jess Keenan); Melissa; Kylie (Phil Stefany) and Dustin. Ed and Dolores were devoted to their grandchildren. One grandson often talks about how Grandpop taught him how to look someone in the eye and shake hands with strength. He taught his children principles of honor in business as well as the importance of friendships. He loved a good game of checkers, was a great bowler, and quickly took to being an expert in computers.
Ed and Dolores also traveled often visiting his in-laws in Florida, his best friend George in Maryland, or traveling to other tropical locations together. They were always seen holding hands as they walked together whether to church or to a casino. To top it off, Ed has 7 great grandchildren (Lacey, Karl, Maeve, Carrick, Cole, Lyla, and Ronan). His face would fold into a soft but large smile as he watched them play. Of course Ed would love there to be a beautiful golf course in heaven and yes, it would be magnificent if only Tina Turner tunes were played as he sat together with Dolores.
