Edward Owens was born December 9, 1960, in LaFayette, Alabama to the late Willie S. Owens, Sr. and Nina Freeman Owens. At an early age, the family moved to Auburn, Alabama where Edward attended school. After graduating from high school, Edward moved to Houston, Texas and attended Texas Southern University where he was a proud member of the Tiger Football Team. While attending Texas Southern, he met his wife of 39 years, Sherri Owens. To this union, one child was born. He departed this life on August 28, 2025.

Edward had many passions, one being education. He received two degrees from Texas Southern University, a Bachelor of Business Administration as well as a Master of Science Degree in Transportation. He went on to obtain another Master of Public Administration Degree from The University of Texas at Arlington. Although he moved to Houston and attended Texas Southern, Edward was a true Alabaman and was a die-hard fan of Auburn Football. He was also passionate about his family whether it was traveling back to Alabama or spending time with Sherri's family. He brought positive energy to every room he stepped in and was always the life of the party!!! His ultimate passion was spending time with his son and granddaughter.

He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of McGee Chapel since 2003.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie S. Owens, Sr. and Nina Owens and three brothers, Willie Owens, Jr., Walter Owens, and Theotis Owens

He leaves to mourn his wife, Sherri Owens, his son, Quenton Edward Owens (Sarah), a sister, Ruby Baker of Auburn, Alabama, a brother, Steven Jackson of Auburn, Alabama, his Granddaughter, Destini Layla-Marie Owens, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
