Edward Powell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Babcock Funeral Home Inc on Jan. 2, 2026.
Edward "Chuck" Powell, 70, of Selkirk, NY, passed away on December 31, 2025, after a long and determined battle-fought with the same stubborn strength and humor that defined his life. Born in Albany, NY, on October 14, 1955, he was the youngest son of the late Charles Edward ("Charlie Ed") and Beatrice Rae (VanAlstyne) Powell.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Audrey E. Shellard Powell; his daughters, Judith (Samuel) Lambert III and Kristina Powell; his two treasured grandsons, Duke Edward Lambert and Beau David-Charles Taylor; his sister, Fanny (Bob) Weddell; numerous sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Beatrice and Charlie Ed Powell, and his brother, Charles C. Powell Sr.
A 1973 graduate of RCS, Chuck proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1987 to 1991. Throughout his life, he held many jobs, but one thing remained constant: if it had wheels, Chuck could-and probably did-drive it. From tour buses to tractor trailers to heavy equipment, he was most at home behind the wheel, though his favorite ride of all was his John Deere tractor.
Chuck loved to cook, hunt, and fish, and he believed the best memories were made outdoors-preferably very early in the morning. He happily passed on his love of the outdoors to his daughters and grandsons, often before sunrise. Known for his wit, storytelling, and larger- than-life presence, Chuck left an impression wherever he went and laughter in his wake.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Babcock Funeral Home, 19 Pulver Avenue, Ravena, NY 12143. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and announced in the coming weeks.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Chuck may be made to Homeward Bound Adirondacks, P.O. Box 1100, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
