Edward Downes "Eddie" Prettyman

Edward D. Prettyman "Eddie", 65, of Dover passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025.
Eddie was born June 18,1959 in Wilmington, Delaware to William and Mary Catherine Prettyman. He was the fourth child and was the baby of the family.
Eddie spent several summers during his younger years at White Crystal Beach, which set the stage for his lifelong love of fishing and the water. He was a hardworking man who took on any number of maintenance jobs throughout his life; always willing to lend a hand and fix whatever needed fixing. His last job was at Dover Downs Casino, where he took pride in keeping things running smoothly, making many friends along the way.
Eddie was a man who never turned down a good story, a cold beer, or a chance to gather his friends and make someone laugh. His infectious spirit and love for his friends made every gathering feel like a celebration. He loved fishing and the water and could talk about his secret fishing spots for hours. He enjoyed working on cars, riding his motorcycle, his dogs and country music. Eddie loved the simple joys of life, casting a line on a quiet morning, the loyalty of a good dog, the freedom of the open road on his motorcycle and the satisfaction of getting his hands greasy while working on his car and listening to his favorite country and western station. However, nothing made him smile, like sharing a big plate of shrimp alfredo with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Catherine, sons Brian Sr. and Matthew, and stepbrother Martin Stanley.
Eddie leaves behind his father William Sr., brother William Jr., sisters, Mary Lynch, Sharon Ellwood and Joan Messick, grandson Brian Jr., great-grandson Kasai, daughter Amy, stepsister Pearl Diehl and stepbrother Mark Stanley.
In honor of Eddie, raise a glass, share a story and keep his spirit alive. He wouldn't want it any other way.
Services will be held Friday, February 7, 2025. Friends may call from 1pm - 2pm at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE. The service will begin at 2pm. Burial will be private.
