Edward James Pribyl, Sr., age 98, of Covington, Louisiana, and formerly of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025. He was born on June 22, 1927, in Baltimore, Maryland.
He is survived by his children, Cecilia "Celie" Pribyl (Tom) and Edward "Ed" Pribyl, Jr. (Shelley); grandchildren, Charlie Mann, Jr., Kelly Mann, John Mann, and Ashley Pribyl; brother, Louis Pribyl; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Kramer Pribyl; his parents, William Pribyl, Sr. and Mary Sadlo Pribyl; and siblings, William Pribyl, Jr., Teresa Pribyl Schiefer and Mary Pribyl Larche.
Ed was the third of five children. His father, William, migrated to Baltimore, Maryland, from Rovno, Russia, and operated the popular Pribyl's Bakery from 1924 until 1952, specializing in Bohemian treats and pastries, including a Christmas Houska. Ed and his siblings worked at the bakery while growing up.
Ed attended St. Wenceslaus Parochial School and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute before earning a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Johns Hopkins University in June of 1953 and a master's degree in engineering administration from George Washington University in May of 1973.
A World War II veteran, Ed proudly served in the United States Navy until being honorably discharged on July 26, 1946. His professional career included 15 years as a chemical engineer with Revere Copper and Brass in Baltimore and 27 years with the United States Department of Defense and National Security Agency where he served as a project manager in microelectronics and manufacturing until his retirement in April of 1993.
He was married to the love of his life, Mary Kramer Pribyl, on February 5, 1949. They enjoyed exactly 60 years of marriage together before Mary's passing on February 5, 2009.
Ed lived the majority of his life in the Baltimore area, including Annapolis and the Maryland Eastern Shore, before moving to Covington, Louisiana, in June of 2022. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who knew him affectionately as "Pop-Pop" and "Paw-Paw". He enjoyed gardening, collecting coins, and reading. He will be specifically remembered for building model train gardens and exhibits during the Christmas season for over 40 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and he will be dearly missed by his family and community.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Pribyl may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 601 Maiden Choice Lane, Baltimore, MD 21228.
All services and burial will be held in Maryland. Arrangements will be added as they become available.
