Edward J. Rafferty

Edward J. Rafferty, 75, of Ravenna passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022 at UH Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Ohio. On July 12, 1947, Edward was born in Ravenna, Ohio to the late Joseph and Rita (Setlock) Rafferty. Being a lifelong resident of the Kent and Ravenna areas, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for the city of Ravenna. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Kathleen. Survivors include his wife Melanie M. (Furrer) Rafferty whom he married January 7, 1977, his children Amy Phillips, Joseph Rafferty, Tina Krajacic, Edward O'Neil, his grandchildren Harper Phillips, Rory Phillips, Amanda Canterbury, Alex Krajacic, Michael Krajacic, Joe and Ed O'Neil, his great grandchildren Audrey and Jackson Canterbury and his siblings Joseph Rafferty, Michael Rafferty and Patricia Aurand. He is also survived by countless friends and companions who joyfully walked together with him on the path first detailed in the "Big Book" of Alcoholics Anonymous. Edward had 42 years of sobriety when he passed. Calling hours will be Sunday, September 18, 2022 from 5 p.m. until a time of sharing at 6:30 p.m. at the Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Tom Furrer officiating. In honoring his request, cremation will follow the services and private family burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna, Ohio.
