Edward Taylor Rubel, 81 of Pensacola, FL passed away on September 11, 2023
Ed was the oldest of the five Rubel siblings. He loved all sports and played basketball while in high school in Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. He was a Navy Brat and lived in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Jacksonville, and Rhode Island. He graduated from Roosevelt Roads High School in 1960.
Some of his family's fondest memories were of Ed in the family room with multiple radios and televisions tuned to different stations to catch games from all over the country. He was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, a Penn State Nittany Lions college football fan, and a St. Louis Blues hockey fan. In more recent years, through his love of college football, he became an avid Alabama football fan with his brother-in-law, Randy.
As a family, we shared numerous days and nights playing hearts, cribbage, and canasta card games. Yahtzee and Monopoly were part of the gaming at the Rubel house as well. There were many late-night games with the cousins when visiting Granny's and Poppy's house on the many trips from Jacksonville to Pensacola. Ed's parents also enjoyed traveling and often took him to Walt Disney World and to Spring Training in the Central Florida area.
As Ed grew older his love of sports slowed down a bit, but he still enjoyed playing games such as bingo at his residence. He was always helpful and looked for ways to be helpful. Of course, he wouldn't be a true Rubel if he didn't love to eat! He always enjoyed family time at the dinner table celebrating birthdays and holidays with loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Altha Rubel; brother, Carl Rubel; nephew, Andrew Rubel; niece, Shari (Rubel) Gomez; and brother-in-law, Randy Rigsby.
Ed is survived by his sister, Gloria (Rubel) Rigsby of Pensacola, FL; brother, Frankie Rubel (Betty) of Clementon, NJ; sister, Donna (Rubel) Stark of Pensacola, FL; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and a great grandnephew in California, Florida, and Virginia.
The family would like to thank Neal Kinard for all her love and care throughout the years, special friend Vera Gilliams, and many supporters from our First Baptist Church of Pensacola family.
