Edward Patrick Sampson, 71, of New Bedford died August 5, 2025 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Bedford, son of Winifred L. (Chace) Sampson of New Bedford and the late William L. Sampson, he lived in New Bedford most of his life. He was formerly employed as a bartender at Buttonwood Cafe and Upper Deck brass Company. Mr. Sampson enjoyed spending time at his favorite watering holes, the Contentinal Tavern and Dipper Cafe with friends. He enjoyed coaching softball, playing slow pitch softball at the United Social Club, fishing, hunting, camping and spending time outdoors. Survivors include his mother Winifred; his lifelong loving partner, Carol Curran of New Bedford; 3 sons, Edward Sampson and Erik Sampson of New Bedford and Sean Almy and his wife Monica of Maine; 3 daughters, Debbie Lynn Sampson of New Bedford, Chelsea Jean Sampson and her fiancé Zach Lombardo of Acushnet and Jocelyn Almy-Testa and her husband Jeffrey of Topsfield; a brother, Richard Sampson and his wife Cheryl of New Bedford; a sister, Kathleen Sampson of New Bedford; 11 grandchildren whom were all his heart, Greggory, Raeghan, Onyx, Blaise, Lailah, Travis, William, Simone Ezra, Jake, Piper and Izzy; a brother-in-law, Gary Curran and his wife Jackie; a sister-in-law, Debra Curran; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William L. Sampson, Jr. His visiting hours will be held on Saturday, August 16th from 11 AM - 1 PM with a prayer service at 12:45 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Boys & Girls Club of New Bedford, 166 Jenney St. New Bedfortd, MA 02740 www.bgcnewbedford.org
