Edward John Silva

Edward John Silva died on August 31, 2024, at the age of 71. He is survived by his loving wife Veronica of Oakland, daughters Teresa of Oakland and Catherina of Daly City, son Peter of Concord, son-in-law Imanuelle of Oakland, sister Trudy of Fremont, brothers Frank of San Leandro and Bishop Larry Silva of Honolulu, and many extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Catherine and Richard Silva, and his brother Len.
Ed was born on December 8, 1952, in Hayward and stayed a lifelong resident of Alameda County. He attended St. John's Catholic School in San Lorenzo, Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Cal State Hayward (East Bay). He worked for 46 years as a Quality Assurance Manager at Shasta Beverages and American Licorice Company (Redvines). He was a longtime Chairman of the California Section of the American Association Of Candy Technologists (AACT).
He was a kind, thoughtful, and loving husband and father, an intelligent and dedicated worker, had both comical and macabre senses of humor, and was hospitable and generous to anyone who crossed his path. Some things Ed enjoyed out of life were time spent with family and friends eating good food, going to Coyote Point to watch planes take off and land at SFO, Jeopardy!, House of Prime Rib, traveling, and cooking for people.
Vigil for the Deceased will be on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 4-8 PM at Holy Sepulchre Funeral & Cremation Center in Hayward. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 10 AM at Holy Spirit Church in Fremont. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Spirit Church are encouraged. Ed was also a longtime donor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of parents with children in need.
