We were fortunate to have Ed Small as a tax advisor for 27(!?) years. He extended his kind, reliable and steady hand to us through all circumstances. His quiet passion for life and work was remarkable. We will miss him.

Ed was my accounting instructor in the '80s at SIUE and never was bothered as i came to class (a touch late on occasion) sweaty and worn out from soccer. Ed has been my tax accountant and friend for 40 years, and Lisa and I were saddened today to learn of his passing.
We will miss our annual conversations as he prepared our taxes with the receipt paper from his calculator all across the floor while he discussed our finances pulling a photo album off the shelf to show us amazing photos from his annual wilderness experience... napal, hiking the continental divide by following descriptions from a book about that hike, alaska, etc. He was a proud marine and when our son enlisted he would recall similar situations as a Grunt, etc making no bones about struggles as a marine - "it is what it is" ... with a shrug and a smile...
A wonderful man who lived life and always had a warm smile and comforting hand-shake... as we reconnected year after year. Lisa and I will truly miss him. Our condolences to his family and friends.

Ed Small and I were the same age, good friends in school and later we became brother in-laws. During Viet Nam ED joined the Marines and I was drafted into the Army. The point is we were good friends, with common interests for much of our lifetime. I do not know very many people for whom I have greater admiration and respect. He was always helpful to the McClellan family and his devotion to the U.S. Military was at a level higher than any other person known to me. Ed could be quiet and focused, he could be a great hunter, and then when playing with the kids, he could be a wild man. We will always love you Ed Small.
