Edward J. Spurgas

Edward J. Spurgas, age 98, died peacefully on September 30, 2025, at Ellis Hospital. Edward was born on December 17, 1926, in Schenectady, NY and was the son of the late Frank and Michaline Spurgas.

Edward was born and raised in Schenectady, where he lived for the first part of his life. He then moved to Charlton, where he remained for more than thirty years. Edward graduated from St. Mary's and later enlisted into the U.S. Army, where he served in San Diego. Upon his honorable discharge, Edward returned home and began his career with the American Locomotive Company. Later on, he changed paths and started working for the City of Schenectady. Along the way, Edward met his beloved wife, Florence, and the two were married for seventy-six years.

All throughout his life, Edward had a passion for hunting, golfing, and the outdoors. He also loved racehorses and relished going to the track every year. Above all things, Edward was proud of his children and adored his grandchildren and cherished each of the memories made with them.

Edward is survived by his beloved wife Florence M. Spurgas; his children Dr. Paul (Deborah) Spurgas, David (Kimberly) Spurgas, and Sharon (Joseph) D'Agostino; his grandchildren Brooke (Ryan) Cullinan, Ashley (John) Armitage, Reed D'Agostino, Dr. Morgan (Jennifer) Spurgas, and Kalie Spurgas; and his great-grandchildren Kensington and Ashton Cullinan, and Maximillion Spurgas.

In addition to his parents, Edward is preceded in death by his brother Stanley Spurgas and his sister Jane Kotarski-Morris.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 2:30pm at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie, NY.
