DICK SUTTELL age 84, beloved husband of Dr. Kay (nee Quaintance) McKenzie-Suttell; loving father of Scott Suttell (Robin), Andrew Suttell (Lori), Christine Wingert and Steven Q. McKenzie (Carol Lynn Coughlin); grandfather of Evan, Jake, Zach Allison and Ashley Suttell, Sam Wingert, Taylor Nelson (Izayah), Eleanor "E" Coughlin and Avery Coughlin; great-grandfather of Quinton Nelson; son of the late Edward and Zita (nee O'Day) Suttell; dear caretaker of a long series of boxer companions.
Born Aug. 29, 1941, to Edward and Zita in Buffalo, New York. Dick graduated from a Catholic high school in Buffalo and attended Niagara University. He went on to receive bachelor's and master's degrees.
A proud 35-year employee of General Electric, Dick spent many years as director of sales for GE Lighting, overseeing sales for one-fifth of the country. He later became director of human resources for GE Lighting and was committed to finding the right people for every role. He took particular pride in helping advance outstanding women and diverse candidates
Dick continued to use his powers for good by serving on the board of CASA, an organization that supports and promotes court-appointed advocates for abused or neglected children. In the mid-1980s, he met and married the love of his life, Kay. They made their home in Chesterland for 40 years. Dick was deeply proud of his children's accomplishments. He showed up for every basketball game, took an active interest in anything they were involved in, and simply wanted to be where they were so he could support them.
A lifelong learner, Dick valued education and made sure his children had the means to attend college and pursue their chosen path.
When he wasn't working or with his family, he enjoyed golfing, reading, summer grilling, and cheering for the Guardians, Cavaliers and Browns. A devoted dog lover, he cared for many boxers over the years. Some of his happiest moments were spent walking in the forest with Kay and their dogs.
He loved the music of John Philip Sousa and loved watching halftime shows. He and Kay hosted memorable Christmas Eve gatherings for friends and family, and he looked forward to Thanksgiving every year - especially Kay's desserts, after she'd been up since 5 a.m. preparing the meal.
Dick passed away on Nov. 15, 2025, surrounded by his family, leaving behind a legacy as a man who always put the needs of those he loved before his own.
Cremation entrusted to DeJohn Crematory. Contributions may be made in memory of Dick to Rescue Village at 15463 Chillicothe Road, Novelty, OH 44072 or online HERE.
