Bruce was the son of Walter and Mildred Miller. He was born on an American Army Base in Nuremberg, Germany. He spent part of his childhood in Germany as well as many different parts of the Northeast United States including Rochester, New York and Buffalo, New York as his father, Walter, was in the military. Walter and Mildred preceded Bruce in death.

Bruce attended Sweet Home Middle and High School, Niagara University, and Buffalo State College. He taught United States and World History, Geography, and Political Science at P. L. Dunbar Middle School which is part of the Lee County Public School System in Fort Myers, Florida for 35+ years. He retired from teaching in 2014.

Bruce is survived by his loving life partner Susan as well as paternal cousins Virginia and Bob Welcher, Susan and Mike Navarro, Dianne and John Fazzolari, David and Belinda Welcher, Stephen Welcher and Seidy Diaz, Sophia Navarro, Dominick, Nicholas, Kendra and Shawn Fazzolari, Jonathan Gilbert, Stacy Welcher, and Juan Ovando. Surviving maternal cousins include Kathleen (Katie), Todd, and Brinkley Schmeer, David (Dave) Rynders, Nicholas Rynders, Mitchell and Amanda Rynders, Christopher (Chris) Rynders, Collin and Taylor Rynders, Cameron Rynders, and Carter Rynders. Bruce also had many wonderful friends and teaching colleagues in Florida.

Bruce loved to travel to various parts of the country and world. He liked to jog, walk, and lift weights. He enjoyed reading, watching television, and cheering for the Buffalo Bills. Bruce loved domestic and wild animals. He was a kind and good man. He will be missed immensely.

Bruce was a devout Catholic. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Rochester, New York. Entombment will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.

A celebration of Bruce's life will be held at a later date in January in Florida.
